The Carn Deargs in Glen Roy

Winter Walking and Mountaineering

You do not need to go high to have fun in the snow! We know of lots of lovely places to visit where you can experience a Winter Wonderland without the need of specialist equipment or skills.

However, if you do want to climb a mountain for the often spectacular views and wonderful feeling of achievement, we help you have a brilliant day and only coach you with skills as they are required. One of our clients wanted to spend a few days climbing Munros in Winter conditions and learn skills as he needed them so we chose easier routes to start with before culminating with a traverse of Creag Meagaidh where he was able to practice all the skills he had learnt during the previous days such as good footwork, when to use and how to walk in crampons etc. On one of the days we had spent some time having fun practising ice axe arresting techniques!

Other people prefer to come out for days deliberately aimed at learning the winter skills necessary to be safe and confident when out doing their own thing whilst still having an adventurous winter day. One father and son did this when we had a day on Creag Dubh near Newtonmore and they wanted to look at avalanche awareness and route planning.

We are happy to advise you as to the appropriate kit you will need for your day and we can arrange the hire of boots, crampons and ice axe if necessary.

Whatever you want, whether that is a magical day in the snow, an adventurous day on the hill or you want to learn and practice winter skills, contact us to find out how we can help.
